[Barbara is sitting in her wheelchair, hands folded in her lap as she smiles wryly at the camera.]

Hey there, Barge. You've got another Warden. My name is Barbara.

Nice to meet all of you.

[Her smile fades as she leans forward, just slightly.]

I know a lot of you aren't here by choice. If it were up to me – [she shakes her head] - but it's not. We're all working with what we have.

That's no reason not to take the chance now that you've got it. A lot of people don't. And I'm here to help with that, if you'll let me.

[She leans back again, arching her eyebrows.]

So – these headaches. Is this a normal thing around here?

[That gets an amused smile.]

100 percent certified Babs.

Apparently I'm a few years behind you, though.

I don't even care, you're Babs and it is so great to see you.

[Her smile widens into a real, warm grin, a hint of surprise in her eyes.] Glad to hear it. How have you been doing?

I've been-

[ She's about to say fine, good, great, but she stops herself. ]

Well, things have been kind of crappy lately. But I've been worse.

[Her expression turns sympathetic. She'd have gone for the fine routine too, if she could.]

"Could be worse" might sound not sound like much of a mantra, but it's gotten me through some tough times.

Story of my life. I'll get over it. [ That, at least, is true. ]

So, uh, I know I said I didn't care if you were a bit behind the times, but how exactly far behind are you? Because I had to explain some things when Dick got here and it kinda sucked.

I don't doubt it. [If nothing else, the girl's determined. Barbara always liked that about her.]

How long ago did the Joker break out of the Slab?

About three years, despite all of Batman's protests. [Yeah, there's definitely pride in that smile.]

[ She can't help but grin. Heck yeah despite all of Batman's protests. ]

[...Okay, she wasn't expecting that. She stares for a second, and the first thing she can even think of to say is - ]

She's fine! [ Because she can imagine what that must imply, that Steph has taken her place. ]

She's operating in Hong Kong now. It's a really long story. [ And she's picking her words carefully, because she doesn't really want to try to get into everything on Babs' first day, when there's a flood on and it's hard to soften the blows. ]

[She breathes.

The relief is clear in her face, and now she can move on to being curious.]

Hong Kong. That's....

[Random.]

So - she gave you the suit?

[The girls have been seeing more of each other. It wouldn't surprise Barbara, to hear they become close. Cass could use a real friend.]

Yup. [ And she did wash it, for the record. ] And then you made my new one. So thanks for that.

[That settles most of Barbara's doubts on its own. If Cass trusts Stephanie with the Bat, anyone should.]

You'll have to model it for me.

So they tell me. I maintain that this bird does not sing for an audience.

They don't tend to notice if you're kicking them in the face.

That doesn't make it any better. And besides, you never know who else might be listening.

[That draws a satisfied smile.] True.

[And now there's a mischievous glint in her eyes.] That's when you break out the dirty lyrics.

[ And that earns a raucous laugh. ]

Now I really wish I had thought of that on patrol.
