[Barbara is sitting in her wheelchair, hands folded in her lap as she smiles wryly at the camera.]

Hey there, Barge. You've got another Warden. My name is Barbara.

Nice to meet all of you.

[Her smile fades as she leans forward, just slightly.]

I know a lot of you aren't here by choice. If it were up to me – [she shakes her head] - but it's not. We're all working with what we have.

That's no reason not to take the chance now that you've got it. A lot of people don't. And I'm here to help with that, if you'll let me.

[She leans back again, arching her eyebrows.]

So – these headaches. Is this a normal thing around here?

So you're having headaches? It's not the same for all of us, though I'm sure someone's explained everything to you.

That's probably for the best. We've well and truly reached our quota of bitter wardens.

Joker broke out of the Slab. That was a few years ago for you, right? [She's slowly getting accustomed to the idea, but it's still such a strange thing to ask. Even with the evidence right there - he's very clearly older, just like Stephanie.]

[She arches an eyebrow at that.]

Bad enough that Inmates don't get a choice, Wardens get conscripted too?

Everything I've been hearing makes me wonder if he's trying to actively sabotage this entire operation.

[She's not surprised to see her, though she is surprised at the recognition. Apparently she gets a bit more lax in the future. She's not sure how she feels about that.

All the same, her smile is genuine.]

Hey, Cassie. Yeah, I've heard all about the floods. Can't say I'm very impressed with the Admiral right now.

The choice isn't always comfortable, but wardens do have a choice. They just don't have to be happy about it.

I'm firmly of the opinion that it's a social experiment on his part.

I've heard he's affected sometimes, too. You think that's an accident? Or he's putting it on?

Well, my Inmate is the Norse god of mischief, so let's start with 'not really what I expected'. I'm a detective with the NYPD back home -

[As a lifelong New York native her slight accent gives the NY part away, and she's been told she has a bit of a cop affect even at ease, so none of this may come as a surprise to Barbara]

- so this is a step along in the justice process I was only familiar with in passing. The floods are a pain in the ass, as you've heard, but they're a pain in the ass equally.

[Barbara pinches the bridge of her nose.]

The Stanford experiment gone wild?

[It...does make a certain amount of sense.]

It's more like the Stanford experiment combined with the Milgram experiment.

[It's definitely a confirmation, more than anything, but her smile deepens at it.]

Must be a bit difficult, trying to see them as patients instead of criminals.

Especially - is he really Loki? [She has some experience with gods, but it's not really her forte, and she's not going to go around advertising it regardless.]

[Her lips purse as she nods.] How much are we willing to accept.

Does he give direct orders very often?

Less often than you might expect. His primary input is warning us about floods and ports, which he may or may not have some level of control over.

Gives credence to your theory, if he just wants to see how it all plays out.

It's as valid a theory as any other. I like to think that my qualifications give me some insight into it.

Oh? [A wry smile.] Did he get an actual psychologist?

I'm a psychiatrist, specializing in psychopharmacology.

[Om nom, different universes. Crane has no idea who Babs is.]

Really Loki. To say he's kind of a dick is putting it lightly, but he's charming with it. Silver tongue and all, it's all part of the myth. [No filtering here because she knows perfectly well Loki would agree with this assessment.]

To be honest with you, I don't really see Inmates as either any more. They aren't all criminals, for one - best I can tell, it's at least as much about why or how you've done what you've done, so much as what you actually did. And I don't think 'patients' really hits it either. You just have to make individual assessments as you go as to how you're going to treat people. Inmates and Wardens.

Well. She didn't. But Dick told her he was here, and the realisation hits her like a ton of bricks.

It doesn't show on her face, save for a slight widening of her eyes.]
