[Barbara is sitting in her wheelchair, hands folded in her lap as she smiles wryly at the camera.]

Hey there, Barge. You've got another Warden. My name is Barbara.

Nice to meet all of you.

[Her smile fades as she leans forward, just slightly.]

I know a lot of you aren't here by choice. If it were up to me – [she shakes her head] - but it's not. We're all working with what we have.

That's no reason not to take the chance now that you've got it. A lot of people don't. And I'm here to help with that, if you'll let me.

[She leans back again, arching her eyebrows.]

So – these headaches. Is this a normal thing around here?

((Hell yes she's affected.))

[She watches the pain flicker in Faith's face, and she hates that she put it there.

When she speaks, her voice is quiet, gentle.]

You want to tell me about her?

Not exactly. [She's hesitant because... Barbara wouldn't have asked her that; or rather, she would have - but it would have been different. It would have been angling for information. Not just... asking to be nice.]

You drink?

Then you'll do well here.

I'm Arthur, by the way. One of the resident librarians.

No. [A slight, rueful smile.] Token teetotaller.

I like a good bar, though.

[Oh, that gets a grin.] It's definitely my pleasure, then.

Just about. Tim's been here for about three. He's... older. [Compared to the scrawny little teenager you're used to. :c]

A lot's happened since the Joker broke out.

There's an aching, helpless sort of concern in her eyes, just for a moment. She knows Tim can defend himself just fine, but - she's supposed to be there to support him.

And he's been here for years.]

...I'm not surprised. It's never slow for us, is it?

[She'd wondered, and that's the push that makes her ask, soft and sudden.]

She wasn't adopted, was she?

[And for most of them he's had Cissie and/or Dick around to make sure he's not doing anything stupid. :c]

No. But I mean he's like, physically seventeen. We don't really age here.

Were you? [That's a no; a somewhat antagonistic no; no one would let her pry about this Barbara, when she wanted information on hers - so she doesn't much appreciate the reverse.]

...Makes sense, I suppose. [As much as anything about this ship makes sense.] Disconcerting, though.

Jim Gordon was my uncle. [It feels so odd to call him that, now. He's been her father for so long.]

Apparently I'm a few years behind you, though.

Fine. We're both fine. [Which... is kind of a lie, so hello again, increasingly irritating headache. Thank God Bruce taught them how to mask this kind of thing, right?]

Have you talked to anyone else yet?

Yeah? [Her mother's dead; her father's a murderer in jail; she gets it; she doesn't want to.]

I've been hearing about the different floods. You'd think he'd have figured out a way to avoid them by now.

[Barbara nods.] I didn't lose them the way she did. If I had... [She shakes her head.] Pretty easy for me to imagine going some dark places. [Her lips curve, just slightly, into a sharply rueful smile; she's gotten pretty dark anyway, and she knows it.]

[Her smile widens into a real, warm grin, a hint of surprise in her eyes.] Glad to hear it. How have you been doing?

I've been-

[ She's about to say fine, good, great, but she stops herself. ]

Well, things have been kind of crappy lately. But I've been worse.

[She arches an eyebrow at that, but lets it go; Faith is hurting like hell, it's not hard to see that. So she nods.]
