TLV 2 - Video

[bodilesswarrior]

[A young Barbara, thirteen at most, is sitting in her wheelchair - but her legs are drawn up onto the seat, one arms wrapped around them. She has the look of a child who's keenly uncertain and doing their best to ignore it.]

Does anyone know whose chair this is? [She'd been drawn to it, and it feels oddly comfortable to sit in, but it can't be hers.]

Or what that turbulence was earlier? [Maybe that could explain all of the weird stuff in her room. Well, it feels like her room, anyway, and she'd made sure to check the door just in case.]

[She looks indignant, for a moment, but - he sounds so sincere. So she just nods.] I will.

Thank you, that'd be much appreciated. You got somebody helpin' you out there?

I do, yeah. He seems nice.

[Barbara considers, biting her lip.] Have you...been here long?

[most_feared]

[He avoids the answer "longer than he'd care for".] Enough to find my way around, I suppose.

[flawedgem]

That's not really an answer. [But there's a smile curving her lips, amused and approving. She's already learning the art of talking without saying much.] Do you like it here?

[most_feared]

[He's quiet for a moment.]

Not really, no.

But I turned into a city boy the moment I moved to New York. So... it'll never be home.

[flawedgem]

New York? I'm - I'm in Jersey, now. [There's something lonely and tired about the way she says it.]

[most_feared]

Are you feelin' far from home there, too? [He can hear it. And he empathizes more than a little bit.]

[flawedgem]

[She smiles sadly, before nodding a bit.]

I'm - I've only been there about a month. I'm from Ohio. [You never know much you love a place - how much it's part of you - until you have to leave it behind.]

[most_feared]

Maybe it'll grow on you. But sometimes its the people as much as the place that makes it worth being there. That's why I'm here, even if it ain't home.

[flawedgem]

[Barbara's arms tighten around her legs as she nods, blinking hard suddenly.]

You made friends?

[most_feared]

I did. I think I made some real good ones. [He usually doesn't have friends outside of the people he works with. It bothers him and he simultaneously kind of likes it.]

[flawedgem]

[softly, intently] I'm glad.

[after a moment, to her knees] I don't - have lots of friends. None in Gotham.

[most_feared]

You don't need a whole lot, I don't think. I bet in no time at all you'll make a few really good ones.

[flawedgem]

[A slow, slight smile. Uncle Jim had said that, too.] I hope so.

I - hope I meet some people like you.

[most_feared]

[That makes him a little sad, because, well... no one gets to "meet" him back home unless they're an agent.]

I'm sure you will. You seem like a nice girl and you're keepin' a good head on you shoulders for being somewhere completely new.
