20 - Audio - First Day of the Flood

[She has dreams, sometimes, of screeching laughter becoming ragged screams, of cold steel turning hot in her hands, of golden symbols draped in blood.

They don't follow her into the waking world; she opens her eyes and feels empty and bitter. She doesn't yearn to rend and tear, to feel life pour into her hands.

Today is different, and it only gets worse. Her heart is crowded with emotions that aren't her own, and slowly, the whispers in her head become distinct.

When she finally reaches for help, her voice is hoarse and heavy.]

[Well. That's strange, but Charles is more or less assuming this flood is going to be a very mixed bag in terms of how people are actually reacting to it.]

You're welcome. I'm going to show you how to build some shields of your own, alright? It's a lot easier to explain telepathically than verbally.

Well, I've been vaguely uneasy around enclosed spaces since I woke up this morning, so I'd assume it's something from the flood. [And he's guessing that's probably from Alex.]

Are you ready?

[He's not especially concerned by the new impulses. He's still the more experienced telepath, and if he wanted to, he could knock her unconscious or at least keep her from harming him, or anyone else. This is fine.

He carefully projects the information, illustrates how to build one up and ease it away. Erik had been able to work it out like this before, so he's fairly certain that she'll be able to catch on as quickly even if she's not a mutant. She is, after all, extremely smart on her own.]
