[Barbara's smile only deepens. She doesn't begrudge anyone their paranoia; it's not something she takes personally.]

I've got my set up, and a lot more besides. I can spare that one.

Well... I... thank you. [He honestly doesn't know what to say beyond that; with a few exceptions, he's found it generally easier to expect the worst of the wardens... and the worst of the Barge, too, given that two of his exceptions have now vanished.

Maybe he's found another one.] I'd... promise it will go to good use, but I'll admit there's a chance I might just use it to program myself a copy of Raider Hunter.

Sounds like a worthy venture to me.

I can think of worthier, but I'm currently blessed with an abundance of free time. [This is not a blessing to him he hates it.]

Have you given any thought to it? A few people have brought your name up for taking over the engine room. [Well, Narvin did and he seconded it, but his own opinion is the one he cares about anyway.]

[Her eyebrows arch.] Have they?

I could do it, but it would probably be best to work in shifts. [Considering.]

That's what we were thinking, too. I volunteered, a few others... but we're all inmates. [There's something a little dry in the way he says it; he's never going to take his position especially seriously outside of those times it's being actively used to oppress him.] And not to be trusted.

[A slight smirk.]

It's all a bit relative, if you ask me. I was just an Inmate for a few days.

And did you enjoy your foray onto our side of the ship?

I missed my weapons.

[It feels strange, being so cavalier about having them - about who she really is. Maybe it'll be good for her.

Which are a great help until you're dealing with someone who can put a bullet in you or kill you with a thought.

Besides, I was recruited by another department. ...A few other departments, actually.

Well, that's why you make the tasers better.

And yet, I was thinking of going to work in the engine room.

I would be happy to work with you.

[And now he actually smiles -- only slightly, but genuinely.] If you can get it away from him, I'm all yours.

He can't stop the Admiral from giving me a key.
